I arrived in New Jersey yesterday. It was hard for me to leave Chicago this time because I know my next trip there will be the last and I do not like saying goodbye to things I love. On Saturday night, I rode home in a taxi and just watched the Chicago skyline go by. I had so much running through my mind yet I was silent. I often remain on the quiet side in order to better absorb my surroundings and ideas and I want to be able to take every detail of Chicago with me. When I arrived home that night, I hesitantly packed my things and flew out the next morning.
Then, this morning I woke up and made my way into Manhattan. A part of me was nervous because sometimes the energy of NY is a bit overwhelming…especially when I miss Chicago. Nevertheless, I went on to a day full of dancing and yoga. During my day, an instructor shared this quote by Martha Graham:“You are unique, and if that is not fulfilled, then something has been lost.”
This got me thinking. Here I am in New York City. A city that fulfills its uniqueness each and every day. A city that is overflowing with unique individuals. I need to feed off of that not shy away from it. We are all unique since the day we are born and it is our duty to fulfill it. Have you ever stopped and asked yourself what makes you unique? I think we often get so wrapped up in the busyness of day-to-day life that we forget to fulfill the uniqueness in us. I hope this inspires you all to explore what makes you unique. I know I certainly will.
